Trade-Ins
We accept some bikes for trade-in as a credit towards a purchase of one of our bikes or services. We do NOT purchase bikes outright. If you are looking to get top dollar for your bike, please use Facebook marketplace or some other online market. The trade-in value of bikes is significantly lower than you could probably get taking the time to sell it yourself.
There are many factors that go in to accepting a bike for trade-in value. Manufacturer, bike age, and wear and tear are just some of the factors we use to come up with a trade-in value. Please note, your trade-in value will be based on what work we will need to do to refurbish the bike for sale. The guide below will help you understand the trade-in process.
On average trade-in values are anywhere between $10 and $50. Very rarely do we offer more than this. Please keep this in mind when considering a trade-in.
What is the trade-in process?
Trade-ins are only accepted towards the purchase of one of our bikes or service on another bike. Just bring your bike to the shop and we can access a value for you. If accepted, the trade-in credit is applied to the sale.
How do you determine the trade-in value of my bike?
-
Blue Book: For newer bikes we start with the Bicycle Blue Book value guide found here: https://www.bicyclebluebook.com/value-guide We use the "FAIR" condition to determine a trade-in starting value.
-
Resell Value: There is a lot of work that goes into ensuring we can resell a bike with our 1-year warranty. In addition, we need to consider the type/style of bike and what we can resell it for. We know what types of bikes our customers buy and what price point works. We take this into account when determining trade-in value.
-
Bike Brand: Bike brand plays an important role in determining trade-in value. For example, almost all department store bikes have NO VALUE! In order to provide a 1-year warranty on our refurbished bikes, we need to take into account the quality of the bike. Sadly, department store bikes are typically of lower quality and have not been built correctly. We accept department store bikes for donation or parts, but will not be considered for trade-in. A list of the bikes we accept can be found below.
-
Store Space: We are a small shop with limited space. Tandem bikes or Trikes are too big for our shop, so will not be offered a trade-in value.
-
Bike Value: Some high end or collector bikes are worth thousands of dollars. We are not a bike museum looking to curate our collection. These types of bikes are way outside of the range that we can offer a trade-in value for. While this would be considered on a case-by-case basis, for the most part, high-end and collector bikes will not be considered for a trade-in value.
- Bike Condition: We notice things about you bike that you probably do not. When accessing a trade-in value, we need to consider the amount of work or parts that need to go into refurbishing the bike to our standards.
